What Makes Balayage Different
Traditional highlights use foils to isolate sections and lift colour uniformly from root to tip. Balayage involves painting lightener directly onto the surface of hair sections freehand. This creates soft, graduated lightness that is concentrated at the ends and diffused toward the roots — mimicking how natural sunlight affects hair.
The Natural Grow-Out
The single biggest advantage of balayage is how it grows out. Because colour is not applied directly to the root, there is no harsh demarcation line as your hair grows. Most balayage clients can comfortably go 12 to 16 weeks between appointments — some even longer. Over the life of your colour, that adds up to significant time and money saved.
Customisation at Every Level
Every balayage application is unique. Your colourist controls exactly where light falls on your hair — more brightness around the face, softer pieces through the back, concentrated lightness at the ends, or subtle dimension throughout. This level of customisation is not possible with standardised foil placement.

Balayage typically costs more per appointment than traditional highlights because it requires more skill, more time, and more artistic judgment.
