The Art of Balayage: Why It’s More Than Just Hair Painting
When it comes to hair coloring trends, one technique that has taken the beauty world by storm is balayage. But what’s the big deal, you ask? Why are celebrities and style gurus obsessing over this particular coloring technique? I’ve been doing some research, so let’s take a look and learn together!
What is Balayage?
First things first, let’s clear up what balayage actually is. The term ‘balayage’ comes from the French word ‘balayer’, which means ‘to sweep’. So, in the hair coloring world, balayage refers to the sweeping motion used by colorists when applying lightener or color to the hair. But this is no random sweeping – it’s a carefully executed art form that results in beautifully blended, natural-looking highlights.
The History of Balayage
Believe it or not, balayage isn’t a newfangled trend. This technique was actually developed back in the 1970s in France! The objective was to create highlights that looked as natural as the sun-kissed strands of a child’s hair. A far cry from the uniform highlights of the foil technique, balayage offers a more organic and customized color experience.
Balayage vs. Traditional Highlights
One of the main attractions of balayage is its less-is-more approach. Traditional highlights use foils to saturate strands with color from root to tip, which can result in a more uniform look. On the flip side, balayage is all about strategic placement and a free-hand technique, creating a softer, more varied color gradient that grows out beautifully. It’s truly the perfect option for those wanting a low-maintenance but high-impact hair color.
The Balayage Technique: An Art Form
Balayage requires a skilled hand, a keen eye, and a whole lot of creativity. At Fluff Denver Color and Balayage Salon, our colorists paint color onto the hair in a way that complements each client’s individual cut, hair texture, and personal style. It’s not just hair coloring – it’s a personalized service that takes into account the whole picture to create a look that’s as unique as you are.
Is Balayage Right For You?
Another major plus of balayage? It’s incredibly versatile. Whether you have light or dark hair, whether you want a subtle change or a dramatic transformation, there’s a balayage look for you. Our expert colorists at Fluff Denver Color and Balayage Salon are ready to bring your hair dreams to life and show you why balayage really is more than just hair painting.

Understanding Female Hair Loss and Finding the Best Solutions for Our Clients
Ladies, we know how much you treasure your lovely locks. So, when hair loss starts to rear its ugly head, it can be distressing and downright frustrating. Over the last few years I’ve noticed a pretty significant uptick in clients experiencing hair loss. But don’t worry, Fluff Bar is here to help! In this article, we’ll dive into the causes of female hair loss and explore some fabulous solutions to help you regain your confidence and rock that gorgeous mane once again.
The Culprits Behind Female Hair Loss
Before we get to the solutions, it’s essential to understand what might be causing your hair loss. Some common culprits include:
Hormonal imbalances: Pregnancy, menopause, and conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) can cause hair loss due to hormonal fluctuations.
Stress: Both physical and emotional stress can lead to hair shedding, known as telogen effluvium.
Nutrient deficiencies: Lack of essential nutrients like iron, zinc, and biotin can contribute to hair loss.
Hairstyling and treatments: Tight hairstyles, excessive heat styling, and harsh chemical treatments can damage hair and lead to breakage.
Underlying medical conditions: Autoimmune disorders, thyroid issues, and scalp infections can also cause hair loss.
More than a dozen of my personal clients claim to have experienced significant hair loss after receiving covid-19 precautionary injections. Though they swear that is the cause, I am only here to pass along that information!
Discovering the Best Solutions for Female Hair Loss
Now that we know the potential causes, let’s explore some fabulous solutions to help you regain your hair’s former glory:
Consult with a Professional
The first step in addressing hair loss is to consult with a professional stylist or a healthcare provider. They can help you identify the underlying cause of your hair loss and recommend the best course of action. There are a number of medical doctors in town that specialize in hair loss solutions.
Choose Gentle Hair Care Products
Opt for sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners, and look for products specifically formulated for thinning hair. These can help create a healthier environment for hair growth and minimize further damage.
One of the primary product line that we recommend at Fluff is called Alter Ego Italy. Alter Ego Italy is a premium line from Italy that utilizes natural extremely high-quality ingredients in addition to utilizing fermentation and probiotics that are also sustainably sourced and organic (wherever possible). This line has an outstanding line of products in its Scalp Ritual collection, that I believe are gentle and are an excellent choice for both hair and scalp health. A happy scalp is essential I believe, for healthy hair and for preventing hair loss.
Nourish Your Hair from Within
Maintain a balanced diet rich in essential nutrients like iron, zinc, biotin, and omega-3 fatty acids to support hair growth. Consider taking supplements if your diet is lacking in these crucial nutrients. Diet is such an often overlooked element of hair health, that I feel it’s imperative to emphasize it here. Stay away from highly processed foods, GMO, seed oils, and in general a high-carbohydrate, low nutrient diet. Instead my personal recomendation is a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, fresh (wild-caught) fish and pasture raised meats (though a vegan or vegetarian diet can also be easily embraced). I used to eat a lot of fake meat products, such as Beyond Burgers, before understanding how the seed oils and highly processed ingredients were effecting my body.
Another solution that a few of my clients has told me about is called LifeWave, which are patches that are supposed to activate stem cell activity. While I can neither confirm or deny their effectiveness, because I have heard so much about these patches, I did want to mention them here so you could do your own research. Their website is: https://www.lifewave.com/
Embrace Low-Maintenance Hairstyles and Styling Techniques
Avoid tight hairstyles, excessive heat styling, and harsh chemical treatments that can contribute to hair loss. Instead, opt for loose, low-maintenance styles and heat-free styling techniques to minimize damage.
Consider Professional Hair Loss Treatments and Solutions
Depending on the cause of your hair loss, your stylist or healthcare provider may recommend treatments like minoxidil, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, or laser therapy to promote hair growth. Hair extensions such an a clip-in or tape-in hair topper and wigs can also be a fantastic option to instantly add volume, length and/or cover hair thinning/balding.

The Ultimate Guide to Hair Repair: Fix and Prevent Damaged Hair with Fluff, Your Hair Salon and Extensions Studio
Have you ever wondered why your hair feels like it’s staging a rebellion against you? Or why it’s more tangled than the cords in your junk drawer? Fear not, fellow hair enthusiasts! Fluff, your favorite hair salon and Extensions studio, is here with the ultimate guide to hair repair. We’ll explore the science of hair, the causes of damage, and the best ways to prevent and repair it – all while having a bit of fun!
Understanding Hair: The Science Behind the Strands
Before diving into hair repair, let’s take a quick detour into the fascinating world of hair science. Hair is primarily composed of a protein called keratin, which gives your locks their strength and flexibility. The outermost layer of your hair, the cuticle, protects the inner layers and keeps your strands shiny and smooth. When the cuticle is damaged, your hair becomes more susceptible to breakage, frizz, and dullness.
Why Does Hair Get Damaged?
Now that we’ve had our mini science lesson, let’s explore the culprits behind damaged hair:
Heat styling: Regular use of blow dryers, curling irons, and straighteners can weaken and break the hair shaft.
Chemical treatments: Coloring, perming, and relaxing can cause chemical damage to the hair cuticle.
Environmental factors: Sun, wind, and pollution can wreak havoc on your hair’s health.
Chlorinated or Chemical Infested Water: Shampooing your hair without a filter on your shower head. Minerals and chlorine can damage your hair.
Physical stress: Over-brushing, tight hairstyles, and rough towel-drying can cause mechanical damage to the hair.
Preventing Hair Damage: Tips for Healthier Hair
Why wait for a hair-tastrophe when you can prevent it? Follow these tips to keep your mane in tip-top shape:
Be gentle: Avoid aggressive brushing, use a wide-tooth comb to detangle, and pat your hair dry instead of rubbing it.
Protect from heat: Limit your use of heat-styling tools and always apply a heat protectant before styling.
Trim regularly: Regular trims (every 6-8 weeks) can help prevent split ends and keep your hair looking its best.
Deep condition: Use a deep-conditioning treatment weekly to nourish and repair your hair.
Unfiltered Water: Replace your shower head with a filter to remove harsh minerals and chlorine.
Repairing Damaged Hair: At-Home Remedies and Salon Solutions
Already dealing with damaged hair? Don’t panic! Here’s how you can repair your tresses and restore them in all their former glory:
Deep conditioning treatments: Look for hair masks and treatments containing ingredients like keratin, argan oil, or coconut oil to nourish and strengthen your hair.
Protein treatments: Protein-rich treatments can help rebuild and fortify damaged hair. Remember to follow the instructions carefully, as overdoing it can cause hair to become brittle.
DIY hair masks: Whip up a homemade hair mask using natural ingredients like avocado, honey, and olive oil for a budget-friendly, hair-loving treat.
Shower Filter: Replace your shower head with a filter to remove harsh minerals and chlorene.
For more severe damage, a visit to Fluff, your hair salon and Extensions studio, may be in order. Our skilled stylists can recommend and perform the following professional treatments:
Customized hair repair treatments: Our team will assess your hair’s condition and create a customized treatment plan to address your specific needs.
Bond Building treatments: EgoBond from Alter Ego Italy is a revolutionary salon treatment that repairs and strengthens the hair’s bonds, preventing breakage and damage. We are obsessed with this bond-building treatment.
Keratin treatments: These salon treatments infuse your hair with keratin, reducing frizz and making your hair more manageable.
Professional haircuts: Sometimes, the best way to repair damaged hair is to start fresh with a new, healthy cut. Our talented stylists can help you choose the perfect style to suit your face shape and lifestyle. You can check out my post on haircuts HERE

The Benefits of Hair Extensions – By Fluff Beauty Editor Brittany
In addition to the latest hair extension trends (if you missed my summer hair extensions trend report, you can read it here), there are many benefits to getting hair extensions. Whether you want to add length, volume, or color to your hair, hair extensions can give you the look you desire without the need for a dramatic haircut or dye job. Here are some of the top benefits of hair extensions:
Instant Length and Volume
One of the biggest benefits of hair extensions is that they can instantly add length and volume to your hair. Whether you have short hair or simply want longer hair, hair extensions can help you achieve the length you desire. Additionally, if you have thin or fine hair, extensions can add volume and thickness to your locks.
No Need for Chemical Treatments
Another benefit of hair extensions is that they don’t require any chemical treatments. If you want to add color to your hair, extensions can provide a temporary solution without the need for dye or bleach. This means you can experiment with different colors and styles without causing damage to your natural hair.
Relatively Low Maintenance
Though it’s relative of course and some are better candidates than others for hair extensions, many consider hair extensions to be low maintenance, requiring managable upkeep to keep them looking great. Unlike natural hair, extensions don’t need to be washed as often, and some are able to reduce the blow drying and styling routine altogether. This means you may be able to save time in the morning while still looking fabulous so long as you don’t skip your maintenance appointments.
Hair extensions can also provide protective styling, as they can help to shield your natural hair from the elements and prevent breakage. Additionally, extensions can help to protect your hair from heat damage caused by styling tools, as you won’t need to use them as often to achieve your desired look.
Finally, hair extensions can give you a boost of confidence, as they can help you achieve the look you’ve always wanted. Whether you want longer hair, more volume, or a pop of color, hair extensions can give you the confidence to take on the day with style and grace.

Hair extensions are a great way to update your look, and this summer, there are several hair extension trends that are taking center stage. Here are some of the hottest hair extension trends for summer 2023 brought to you by Fluff right here in Denver!
Balayage hair extensions are a great way to add dimension to your hair without the need for dye. These extensions come in a slightly lighter or darker shade than your natural hair color, creating a beautiful gradient effect. This style looks especially stunning when paired with beachy waves, which is perfect for summer.
Clip-in bangs are a great way to try out bangs without committing to a haircut. These extensions can be easily clipped onto your natural hairline and removed whenever you want to switch up your style. Clip-in bangs come in a variety of lengths and styles, making it easy to find a look that suits your face shape and hair type.
Pastel hair extensions are another popular trend for summer 2023. From soft pink to baby blue, there’s a pastel shade for every skin tone and hair type. Pastel hair extensions can be added to your natural hair for a subtle pop of color, or you can go all out and create a bold, statement-making look.
Tape-in hair extensions are a great option for those who want a more permanent solution. These extensions are attached to your natural hair with medical-grade adhesive and can last for several months. Tape-in extensions can add length and volume to your hair, making them a great choice for anyone with thin or fine hair. They also require very little maintenance, making them a convenient option for those with a busy schedule.
Curly hair extensions are specifically designed for those with curly hair and come in a variety of curl patterns. These extensions can be styled just like your natural hair, so you don’t have to worry about damaging your curls with heat styling tools. Curly hair extensions are a great way to add length and volume to your hair without sacrificing your natural texture.
Sew-in hair extensions are a popular option for those who want to add length and volume to their hair without using adhesive. These extensions are sewn onto small braids made with your natural hair, providing a secure and long-lasting hold. Sew-in extensions can last for several months with proper care, making them a great choice for those who want a semi-permanent solution to their hair extension needs.
Ombre hair extensions are a great way to add subtle dimension to your hair. These extensions come in a slightly lighter or darker shade than your natural hair color, creating a gradient effect. Ombre extensions are perfect for adding some interest to your hair without committing to a dramatic change.
Ponytail hair extensions are perfect for adding length and volume to your ponytail. These extensions can be easily clipped onto your natural hair, giving you a fuller and more voluminous ponytail. Ponytail extensions are a great option for those who want a quick and easy way to update their look.
There are many hair extension trends to choose from this summer, so pick one that best suits your style and personality. Whether you opt for balayage, clip-in bangs, pastel shades, tape-in, curly, sew-in, ombre, or ponytail extensions, you’re sure to turn heads with your stunning new look after your next appointment at the Hair Extensions Studio by Fluff.

Your understudy is introduced to you the day of your trial and shadows your artist, taking pictures, video and detailed notes of what your key artist is doing. After your trial run your key artist then works with your understudy ensuring the understudy masters your chosen wedding day look. If something was to ever happen to your key artist, your understudy would execute your day of look to the exact same standard of your key artist.
During your trial run your artist will work with you to ensure the look that you have chosen not only will photograph well, but also reflects your inner beauty and true self. This is very important and is often an overlooked aspect of bridal beauty, and brides are left feeling uncomfortable and/or unnatural in their wedding do’s on their wedding day. We encourage all of our Bride to Be’s to email hair and make-up inspirations to their Bridal Concierge who in turn will turn those looks into a story-board for your artist. Pictures speak a 1000 words and the story-board clearly communicates to the artists what you find beautiful and how you feel beautiful.
